Biological Urinal Blocks
INFORMATION SHEET
Biological Urinal Blocks have been specially formulated to reduce odour problems and blockages in urinals and to be less environmentally damaging than conventional pDCB Urinal Blocks, (Pineapple Chunks).
Each Biological Block contains powerful biological cleaning agents, which are proven to maintain clear, odour free urinal traps and pipe work. Savings can be made when using these water-soluble, biological urinal blocks by reducing the frequency of urinal flushing, as the Biological Blocks deliver the cleaning and water-softening agents into the drainage system each time the urinal is used or flushed.
WHERE TO USE
Because Bio Blocks do not contain Para dichlorobenzene they are safer to use and store than conventional pDCB blocks, especially where children or handicapped people may come into contact with cleaning agents. Bio Blocks are suitable for use in all types of urinals, stainless steel, porcelain and ceramic troughs. Biological Blocks should be used in toilets & washrooms with a history of odour problems and slow running outlets as they will improve flow rates and reduce the odours.
By reducing urinal flushing frequency savings can be made and scale build-up on urinal surfaces avoided.
HOW TO USE
Place one Biological Block in each urinal, or one every 50cm in trough urinals. Replace when block has dissolved to maintain maximum efficacy.

Trial Results 2005
These photographs show the difference between using “BIX ECOTECH” Biological Urinal Blocks with cleaning action and pDCB blocks in a washroom, in a trial conducted over a six-month period. The trial site had a history of blockages caused by build-up of scale and solids in the pipes from the urinals. The blockages had caused severe flooding to the rooms below.
Before switching to Biological Urinal Blocks, the contractor charges for unblocking pipes ran into several hundred pounds. The results of the trial showed that Biological Urinal Blocks were able to keep the urinals clean and the pipe-work clear of any blockages providing substantial savings to the customer.
ABOUT para DICHLOROBENZENE
From October 31st 2005 product labelling must show the danger of exposure to pDCB. Any unwanted material will fall into the classification of hazardous waste, and have to be disposed of by a licensed contractor.
This re-classification of para Dichlorobenzene will highlight the carcinogenic risks associated with the material, especially when used in urinal blocks where inhalation in a confined space such as a washroom presents a very real danger.

What you might not know about comparisons?
pDCB is a crystallised gas and only offers masking smell and some insect repellent properties. pDCB provides no cleaning efficacy at all. Some people are under the impression because pDCB blocks get smaller in the urinal that they dissolve in water. This is not so. pDCB returns to its gaseous state while 'dissolving' into the air when immersed in water it remains static. Unfortunately and because of this, when pDCB blocks get small enough to drop through urinal grating they lodge in the trap and cause blockages. The various pDCB alternatives are usually made from surfactants so they provide some cleaning efficacy. These blocks are also water soluble, so they totally dissolve and cannot contribute to blocked pipes.
